FAQ's

Q. What type of snowchains do I need?
A.
The type of vehicle and tyre size combination that you have determines what type of snowchains can be fitted. For most standard cars without clearance issues, the Pewag Brenta-C snowchains are ideal. If you have a car which has limited clearance, you have three options. These are the Sportmatik, Slim-Tec or Brenta-9 model snowchains.

It's always worth checking your car handbook which should give you an indication whether you can fit snowchains or not for a given tyre size. This can sometimes be a bit misleading and in some cases we may still be able to supply a suitable snowchain even though the manual says that you can't. Our experienced sales team will be able to advise you with this.

Q. Can I use snowchains on my car as the manual says not to because the car has limited clearance?
A.
In some cases we may be able to offer a slim fitting snowchain which will suit your car, even if it has a clearance problem. If it really is not possible to fit snowchains then a product called AutoSock may be a suitable alternative. Please contact us for more details.

Q. How many snowchains do I need?
A. Under normal circumstances, one pair of snowchains is sufficient and should be fitted to the drive wheels, although in the case of rear wheel drive vehicles, two pairs of snowchains can be fitted for improved steering control.

For 4x4 vehicles, please consult your owners handbook for details on whether to fit snowchains to the front or rear wheels as this varies between different manufacturers. Again, two pairs of snowchains can be fitted for maximum effect and improved braking control.

Q. Which wheels do I fit snowchains to?
A. You should fit snowchains to the drive wheels of your vehicle. Snowchains can be fitted to all four wheels for maximum effect but this is not a necessity.

Q. How long will they last?
A. It is impossible to give an accurate lifetime for your snowchains as this is determined by the conditions in which they are used, the weight of the vehicle that they are fitted to and generally how they are looked after. If you run your snowchains on uncovered tarmac for example, this will increase the wear on the chains considerably and reduce their service life. If you run your snowchains only on snow covered roads, removing them when the road is clear of snow, you can expect many seasons of trouble free life from them. It is also wise to remember that your snowchains should be hung and allowed to dry naturally after use which will also help prolong their life. Remember, they are primarily made from metal and will rust if left in a pool of water in their storage box!

Q. How fast can I drive with snowchains fitted?
A. The maximum recommended speed for driving with snowchains fitted is 30 mph (50 kph). Higher speeds than this could lead to a snowchain failure which may result in damage to your vehicle.

Q. Will my Pewag snowchains be legal for use abroad?
A. Yes. All of the Pewag range of snowchains that we sell will comply with European regulations for the use of snowchains.

Q. Will snowchains damage my alloy wheels?
A. No. Pewag snowchains are designed so that they will not harm your alloy wheels when fitted in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Q. Do I get a warranty with my Pewag snowchains?
A. All Pewag snowchains are warranted against faulty workmanship and defective materials. If you find that your snowchains are faulty in any way when you receive them they will be replaced free of charge.

If a Pewag snowchain were to fail during use we would return it to Pewag for inspection and obtain a report. If they find that the product failed because of a manufacturing defect, they would replace it free of charge.

Q. If I sell my car and my current Pewag snowchains do not fit my new car, can I swap them for a different size?
A. If your Pewag snowchains and packaging are in ‘as new' condition and never been fitted to your car, we can normally exchange them for a like for like model. To qualify for an exchange, your snowchains must still be within our current range and be no more than twelve months old. Proof of purchase also required.
